Name in Russian:
ГОСТ 2.001-2013
Unified system for design documentation. General principles
Full title and description
GOST 2.001-2013 — Единая система конструкторской документации. Общие положения (Unified system for design documentation. General principles). Межгосударственный стандарт, устанавливающий назначение, область распространения, классификацию и правила обозначения стандартов комплекса ЕСКД, а также порядок их внедрения и применения.
Abstract
GOST 2.001-2013 defines the general principles of the Unified System for Design Documentation (ЕСКД). It sets out the purpose and field of application of the ESKD suite, classification of documents and standards within the system, rules for their designation and basic requirements for implementation and transition. The standard provides a framework for consistent preparation, identification and introduction of design documentation and related intergovernmental standards across member countries.
General information
- Status: Interstate standard (ЕСKD). Implemented 1 June 2014; in the Russian Federation the standard was later superseded for national application by a successor standard (GOST R 2.001-2023) with effect from 1 March 2024.
- Publication date: Adopted November 22, 2013; entered into force 1 June 2014.
- Publisher: Adopted by the Interstate Council on Standardization, Metrology and Certification; implemented/published and maintained in Russia by the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology (Rosstandart).
- ICS / categories: 01.110 — Technical product documentation (General provisions on design documentation and standardization).
- Edition / version: Edition 2013 (designation GOST 2.001-2013; effective 1 June 2014).
- Number of pages: Approximately 9–11 pages (page count varies by publisher and formatted edition).
Scope
The standard applies to the set of interrelated standards that form the Unified System for Design Documentation (ЕСКД). It establishes the objectives and areas of application for the ESKD complex, defines classification groups for standards and documents, prescribes rules for the designation (indexing) of ESKD standards and describes the procedure for their implementation and introduction in member states. GOST 2.001-2013 is intended to provide a common, high-level framework that ensures compatibility and uniformity of design documentation practices across organizations and jurisdictions that adopt ESKD.
Key topics and requirements
- Purpose and objectives of the Unified System for Design Documentation (ESKD).
- Field of application and territorial/organizational scope for ESKD standards.
- Classification scheme for ESKD standards and grouping by subject areas.
- Rules and format for designation (indexing) of standards and normative documents within ESKD.
- Basic definitions and terminology used across the ESKD suite.
- Procedures and order of implementation/introduction of intergovernmental standards in national systems.
- Reference structure: normative references and links to other ESKD standards (drawing formats, title blocks, document attributes, normocontrol, etc.).
- Application to electronic design documentation and general note on content vs. presentation of electronic documents.
Typical use and users
Primary users are design and engineering departments, CAD specialists, technical documentation authors, quality and normocontrol personnel, standards managers, regulatory authorities and certification bodies in organizations that develop, approve or exchange engineering and product documentation across countries that recognize ESKD. The standard is used to harmonize document classification, designation and high-level procedures for introducing and maintaining related ESKD standards.
Related standards
GOST 2.001-2013 is the umbrella / general-principles document for the ESKD suite and is used alongside many related standards in the same series, for example: GOST 2.101 / 2.104 (rules for drawings and text documents), GOST 2.111-2013 (normocontrol), GOST 2.302 / 2.307 (document indexing and numbering conventions), and other ЕСКД standards governing title blocks, sheet formats, tolerancing and technical requirements. National adaptations and later national replacements (for example GOST R 2.001-2023 in the Russian Federation) should be consulted where applicable.

FAQ
Q: What is this standard?
A: GOST 2.001-2013 is the intergovernmental standard titled "Unified system for design documentation. General principles" — it defines the high-level purpose, scope, classification and designation rules for the ESKD family of standards.
Q: What does it cover?
A: It covers general provisions for the ESKD suite: objectives and field of application, classification of standards and documents inside ESKD, rules for designation (indexing), basic terminology, and the procedure for implementation and introduction of ESKD standards in member states. It also clarifies the relationship between content and presentation for electronic design documents.
Q: Who typically uses it?
A: Engineers, technical authors, CAD and document-control specialists, quality/normocontrol personnel, standards administrators, and authorities responsible for implementing or harmonizing design documentation practices across organizations and states that apply ESKD standards.
Q: Is it current or superseded?
A: GOST 2.001-2013 was adopted in late 2013 and entered into force 1 June 2014 as the general-principles standard for ESKD. For national application in the Russian Federation it was later superseded by a national successor (GOST R 2.001-2023) with effect from 1 March 2024; however GOST 2.001-2013 remains the identified intergovernmental reference for the ESKD series and may still be referenced in CIS/intrastate practice — always check the current national registry in the country of use.
Q: Is it part of a series?
A: Yes — it is the top-level/general-principles standard of the Единая система конструкторской документации (ЕСКД) series. The series contains many related standards addressing specific document types, drawing rules, title blocks, numbering, normocontrol and other design-documentation topics.
Q: What are the key keywords?
A: ЕСКД, design documentation, classification, designation, normocontrol, title block, document indexing, standardization, Rosstandart.
