Full title and description
Controlgear for electric light sources - Safety - Part 2-11: Particular requirements - Miscellaneous electronic circuits used with luminaires. This document specifies safety requirements for miscellaneous electronic circuits used with luminaires for use on DC supplies up to 1 500 V or on AC supplies up to 1 000 V at 50 Hz or 60 Hz; it is the second edition and constitutes a technical revision of the earlier edition and amendment.
Abstract
IEC 61347-2-11:2024 establishes particular safety requirements, information and marking requirements, and tests for miscellaneous electronic circuits incorporated in or used with luminaires where no more specific TC 34 standard exists. The 2024 edition aligns requirements with the fourth edition of IEC 61347-1, extends the DC scope to 1 500 V, clarifies scope and marking, and adds requirements for determination of output working voltage (new Clause 17).

Scope
Specifies safety requirements for miscellaneous electronic circuits used with luminaires that are not covered by other specific TC 34 standards. Applies to circuits intended for use on DC supplies up to 1 500 V and on AC supplies up to 1 000 V (50 Hz or 60 Hz). Typical items covered include control or interface circuits for electronic controlgear, circuits used with sensors (daylight/presence), EMC-improving circuits, blink circuits for decorative strings, and protective circuits used with discharge lamp transformers. The part is intended to be used in conjunction with IEC 61347-1.
Key topics and requirements
- Safety requirements and tests for miscellaneous electronic circuits used with luminaires.
- Scope extension to DC supplies up to 1 500 V and AC supplies up to 1 000 V (50/60 Hz).
- Alignment with the fourth edition of IEC 61347-1; deletion of clauses that are now covered by IEC 61347-1.
- Revised information and marking requirements for components and assemblies.
- Introduction of a requirement and method for determination of the output working voltage (new Clause 17).
- Clarification of applicability versus other TC 34 standards and exclusions for devices covered by specific standards.
Typical use and users
Used by luminaire and controlgear manufacturers, product designers, conformity assessment and test laboratories, certification bodies, regulatory compliance engineers, and standards committees. It is referenced when designing, testing or certifying miscellaneous electronic sub-circuits associated with lighting luminaires that are not covered by a more specific standard.
Related standards
This part is intended to be used together with IEC 61347-1 (general requirements for controlgear) and sits within the IEC 61347 series (lamp/controlgear safety). It replaces earlier consolidated editions based on IEC 60920 and updates requirements formerly covered by IEC 61347-2-11:2001 and its 2017 amendment. Other related standards from TC 34 (for example those addressing particular types of electronic controlgear or digital lighting interfaces) may take precedence where they apply.
