Full title and description
IEC TR 61850-90-3:2016/COR1:2020 — Corrigendum 1 to "Communication networks and systems for power utility automation — Part 90-3: Using IEC 61850 for condition monitoring, diagnosis and analysis". This corrigendum contains editorial corrections, clarifications and limited technical corrections to the original Technical Report IEC TR 61850-90-3:2016 to improve consistency, correct errors and clarify guidance on applying IEC 61850 for condition monitoring and asset diagnostics.
Abstract
This document is Corrigendum 1 (2020) to IEC TR 61850-90-3:2016. It provides a small number of corrections and clarifications to the 2016 Technical Report that addresses the use of IEC 61850 for condition monitoring, diagnosis and analysis in power utility environments. The corrigendum refines text, corrects typographical and editorial mistakes, clarifies references and improves the consistency of data-model and communication guidance used for monitoring sensors, asset-management interfaces and information exchange for diagnostic workflows.
General information
- Status: Published (Corrigendum to IEC TR 61850-90-3:2016)
- Publication date: 4 November 2020
- Publisher: International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), TC 57
- ICS / categories: 33.200 (Telecontrol. Telemetering)
- Edition / version: Corrigendum 1 (2020) to Edition 1.0 of IEC TR 61850-90-3:2016
- Number of pages: 3 (corrigendum document)
Scope
The corrigendum applies to the 2016 Technical Report IEC TR 61850-90-3 and is limited to editorial and corrective updates necessary to remove inconsistencies, fix typographical errors, amend incorrect references and clarify the application guidance in the original TR. It does not introduce new normative requirements beyond those already described in the 2016 TR; instead it adjusts the published text so implementers and users of IEC 61850 for condition monitoring have clearer, more accurate guidance.
Key topics and requirements
- Editorial corrections to text, figures and tables in the 2016 Technical Report.
- Clarifications of terminology and definitions related to condition monitoring and diagnostic data models.
- Corrections to normative and informative references to other IEC 61850 parts and related standards.
- Improved guidance on mapping sensor data and diagnostics into IEC 61850 logical node and data object structures.
- Clarified recommendations for communication requirements between sensor networks, substation devices and asset management systems when using IEC 61850.
- Consistency fixes to use cases and examples for monitoring of transformers, GIS, transmission lines, cables and auxiliary systems.
Typical use and users
The corrigendum is intended for the same audience as the base Technical Report: power utility engineers, protection and control engineers, asset management and condition monitoring specialists, device vendors, system integrators and test houses. It is used by practitioners implementing IEC 61850-based condition monitoring solutions, by specifiers preparing procurement and interoperability requirements, and by technical committees and working groups aligning IEC 61850 parts with application-specific guidance.
Related standards
IEC TR 61850-90-3:2016/COR1:2020 is part of the IEC 61850 family and relates directly to other parts of IEC 61850 (for example IEC 61850-7 series on data models, IEC 61850-8-1 for mappings, IEC 61850-9-x for sampled values/GOOSE where relevant) as well as to other application guidance reports in the 61850-90 series. It formally corrects and complements IEC TR 61850-90-3:2016 (the base Technical Report).

FAQ
Q: What is this standard?
A: This is Corrigendum 1 (2020) to the Technical Report IEC TR 61850-90-3:2016. It contains a short set of corrections and clarifications to the 2016 TR that describes how to use IEC 61850 for condition monitoring, diagnosis and analysis.
Q: What does it cover?
A: It covers editorial and corrective updates to the 2016 Technical Report text, clarifying references, terminology and examples so implementers can apply IEC 61850 more consistently for condition monitoring and diagnostic information exchange.
Q: Who typically uses it?
A: Utilities, protection/control and condition-monitoring engineers, asset managers, device vendors, system integrators and test laboratories who design, deploy or evaluate IEC 61850-based condition monitoring solutions.
Q: Is it current or superseded?
A: The corrigendum was published on 4 November 2020 and corrects the 2016 Technical Report. It does not supersede the TR; rather it amends the published 2016 edition. Users should apply the 2016 TR together with Corrigendum 1 (2020) for the corrected text.
Q: Is it part of a series?
A: Yes. It is part of the IEC 61850 series (communication networks and systems for power utility automation) and specifically the 90-series of application-specific guidance documents (61850-90-x).
Q: What are the key keywords?
