Full title and description

GOST R 56006-2014 — Pipeline valves. Testing and acceptance on objects of the gas main pipelines before commissioning. General technical requirements. The standard establishes technical requirements, test methods and acceptance procedures for pipeline valves used on trunk (main) gas pipelines prior to their commissioning.

Abstract

This national standard (Russia) sets out organization, scope and sequence of work for inspection, pre-commissioning tests, acceptance and control of pipeline valves installed on gas-main pipeline facilities (newly designed, constructed, repaired or reconstructed, and those undergoing technical re-equipment). It covers types of valves (shut-off, control/regulating, safety and check valves), requirements for pre‑installation preparation, storage, test media and parameters, safety and environmental protection measures, criteria for evaluation of test results and procedures for elimination of detected defects.

General information

  • Status: Active (in force).
  • Publication date: Approved by Rosstandart Order No. 403‑st on 24 April 2014; introduced into effect 1 January 2015.
  • Publisher: Federal Agency on Technical Regulating and Metrology (Rosstandart), Russian Federation.
  • ICS / categories: 23.040.01 (Pipeline components and pipelines in general); 23.060.01 (Valves in general).
  • Edition / version: First edition — 2014 (GOST R 56006-2014).
  • Number of pages: 64 pages.

Scope

The standard applies to pipeline valves of domestic and imported manufacture with nominal diameters up to DN 1400 inclusive and nominal pressure ratings up to and including PN 25 MPa, installed on main gas pipelines and related compressor/processing/receiving facilities. It is intended for use during incoming inspection, storage and pre‑installation preparation, mounting, preliminary (shop and field) testing, and commissioning (pre‑commissioning and start‑up) acceptance of valves on trunk gas pipeline objects.

Key topics and requirements

  • Organizational requirements for planning and conducting incoming, preliminary and commissioning tests and acceptance of valves on pipeline objects.
  • Types of tests: strength and material tightness, leak (hermeticity) tests, functional (operation) tests, tests at negative temperatures, actuator and control system checks, and pneumatic/hydraulic test procedures.
  • Specified test parameters, test media (water, air, natural gas, etc.) and permissible pressures/temperatures for different test types.
  • Acceptance criteria and forms for recording results (recommended and mandatory annexes/forms provided).
  • Requirements for storage, pre‑installation preparation, mounting, maintenance and handling of valves (including storage life and inspection intervals).
  • Safety, environmental protection and personnel responsibilities during testing and acceptance operations (including protective zones and permits).
  • Scope of applicability by valve types (shut‑off, regulating, safety, check valves) and reference to related technical specifications and standards.

Typical use and users

Used by engineering and construction organizations, pipeline operators, commissioning teams, quality/inspection departments, valve manufacturers and repair workshops involved in design, manufacture, delivery, installation, testing and commissioning of valves on trunk gas pipelines and associated facilities (compressor stations, gate stations, meter/regulation stations, underground storage interfaces). Also used by technical regulators and auditors for conformity assessment during pre‑commissioning and acceptance.

Related standards

The document references and complements other national and industry standards for pipeline valves, valve testing and pipeline systems (examples include ГОСТ Р 56001‑2014 — pipeline valves general specifications, ГОСТ Р 53402 and several GOST R standards on valve types and testing procedures). It is intended to be used together with design and operational regulatory documents and manufacturers' technical documentation (RE, PS).

FAQ

Q: What is this standard?

A: GOST R 56006-2014 is a Russian national standard that defines general technical requirements, test methods and acceptance procedures for pipeline valves on trunk gas pipeline facilities prior to commissioning.

Q: What does it cover?

A: It covers organization of incoming, preliminary and commissioning tests, specific test types and parameters (strength, leak, functional tests), storage and pre‑installation preparation, safety and environmental requirements, criteria for acceptance and procedures for elimination of defects.

Q: Who typically uses it?

A: Engineers, pipeline operators, commissioning and inspection teams, valve manufacturers and repair/maintenance organizations working on gas‑main pipelines and associated facilities.

Q: Is it current or superseded?

A: The standard was approved on 24 April 2014 and entered into force on 1 January 2015; it is listed as active (in force) in available standards catalogs. Users should verify whether more recent revisions or replacement standards have been issued before relying on it for new projects.

Q: Is it part of a series?

A: It is part of a set of GOST R standards addressing pipeline valves, pipeline design and testing for the gas industry (related GOST R documents establish general valve specifications, specific valve‑type requirements and complementary testing/acceptance rules). Consult the referenced standards list in the document for the complete series.

Q: What are the key keywords?

A: Pipeline valves, testing, acceptance, pre‑commissioning, gas main pipelines, hydrostatic test, leak test, functional tests, DN 1400, PN 25 MPa, Rosstandart.
